CLEANING - THE NEW INFECTION PREVENTION OPPORTUNITY
Bridging the Gap between Cleaning the Environment and Infection Prevention and Control
It is a great pleasure to announce the new collaboration between CAP Partner and RAI, Amsterdam. The collaboration opens the door to the very first Healthcare Cleaning Forum, which will be held May 16, 2018 at the INTERCLEAN exhibition in Amsterdam. With more than 850 exhibitors and 30.000 visitors INTERCLEAN is the world’s largest Professional Cleaning and Hygiene trade show.
Aim of the Forum
Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) constitute a global threat to patient safety and cause avoidable deaths. HAIs not only affect patients but also put unnecessary strain on the global antibiotic reserve. According to European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, HAIs and antimicrobial resistance are among the most serious public health problems, globally and in Europe.
Key factors causing infections in healthcare settings are poor communication and insufficient application of standard precautions. This includes procedures for routine cleaning and disinfection of environmental and other frequently touched surfaces, as well as reprocessing of reusable equipment.
Thus, this Forum aims to put HAIs and antimicrobial resistance on top of the agenda by creating awareness and facilitating knowledge sharing & networking amongst healthcare workers, decision makers, key-opinion leaders and parties of the industry.
Professor Didier Pittet
Spearheading the scientific advisory committee is Professor Didier Pittet, infectious diseases expert and the director of the Infection Control Programme and World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre on Patient Safety, University of Geneva Hospitals and Faculty of Medicine, Geneva, Switzerland. Since 2005, Prof Pittet is also the Lead Adviser of the WHO "Clean Care is Safer Care" programme, currently active in hospitals in more than 180 countries worldwide. Prof. Pittet says:
“Healthcare-associated infections are one of the largest causes of deaths worldwide. These are preventable deaths. Yet, no healthcare systems can claim to have solved the problem. This Forum will be an essential step in increasing awareness on healthcare-associated infections and in addressing the critical role of cleaning in infection prevention and control”
- Professor Didier Pittet, University of Geneva Hospitals & World Health Organization
The Forum provides a comprehensive programme which will be addressed by world leading experts in the field. With the following seminar sessions this project will be a key component in increasing patient safety and in reducing antibiotic use.
